NAMING RULES
In the Tiwi society personal names were of extraordinary importance, and usually all the newborns were named right after their birth, either by their fathers, or the male that was married to their mothers. And because, the Tiwi women were remarried a few times during their life cycle, very often their kids had more than one name. However, over time this tradition sort of died down, and they only had one name that was given to them right after their birth. Another important point here is that, even though the stepfathers were able to rename their wives’ kids, however, they were not allowed to change their daughters’ bestowals.
